BEST Special Seminar: "Creating your path to a successful career in the pharmaceutical industry" by Carlo Nalin the Executive Director of Therapeutics Integrity at Novartis Oncology. Cornell alum, Dr. Nalin completed his postdoc here in BMCB before going to the Roche Institute for Molecular Biology. As a research investigator at Roche, he isolated and purified recombinant proteins for structure determination and drug discovery and developed expertise in protein-protein interactions, PEG-modification of interferon, and in enzymology. In 1993 he then led for six years discovery teams in oncology at Novartis, with a focus on apoptosis research, high throughput cellular screening, and protein-protein interactions.
As Senior Project Leader at Novartis he led cross-functional teams in Oncology for development of small molecule therapeutics including Glivec (imatinib mesylate), Femara (letrozole) and several early development drugs. He then became the Global Program Team Director for Tasigna and Glivec.
For the past seven years he has been involved in:
Importance of Quality Medicines
Forensic testing of drugs for quality assessment
Risks to patients and health care systems from substandard drugs
Patent infringement for pharmaceutical products
Oncology and Hematology
